We welcome children with Autism and sensory issues to our office. We have teamed with SensoPlay to provide sensory aides to assist children with the eye exam process. Aids include sensory bags available at check-in with noise-canceling headphones, sunglasses, sensory toys, 2-way communication cards, and a social story. Salem Eyecare Center also has a weighted lap pad and a multisensory area for patients with varying developmental abilities and sensory regulation problems. The sensory area is downstairs in the pediatric reception area and is equipped with lighted bubble tubes and various lights, an assortment of sensory toys and a crash pad. The equipment can provide stimulation, calming effect and improve focus for children that might otherwise have difficulties with the exam environment. The social story is available to download from our website or you may request them at the front desk to use when you check-in.
